The Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU), within the School of Business, Management and Economics at the University of Sussex, is seeking a part-time Research Fellow to work on a new research project funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) from now until November 2016, entitled ‘pathways to inclusive development through innovation, technology and structural change’. The project will develop a framework to analyse alternative pathways that link different forms of technological innovation, with different structural change and inclusion outcomes in low-income countries. It is led by Dr Jodie Thorpe and Dr Seife Ayele in the Business Markets and the State Cluster at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) and Prof. Maria Savona and Dr. Tommaso Ciarli at SPRU.

The position would be suitable for an early career researcher in economics, development studies, business, sociology or another related field, with knowledge of theoretical approaches to technological innovation and structural change, and debates in economic inclusion and inclusive innovation. The successful candidate will require excellent analytical skills, interviewing skills, and strong project management skills. Experience of literature review, data analysis involving multiple data sources and types, using quantitative and / or qualitative research methods is essential. Familiarity with practical examples and cases of technological change in low-income countries, especially in the agricultural and energy sectors, would be an advantage.

The position is fixed term, part time 0.5 FTE for 7 months (with the possibility of an extension)
Salary range: starting at £31,656 and rising to £37,768 per annum, pro rata
