2018 Technology Transfer Conference

La Technology Transfer Conference 2018 se realizará del 17 al 19 de octubre en Valencia, España. Cierre de envío de trabajos: 22 de junio.
We would like to invite you to submit a paper to the 2018 Technology Transfer Conference. The main themes of the Conference will revolve around the evolution and dynamics of technology transfer. Submissions featuring longitudinal and historical studies, ideally using mixed-methods research and/or wave data, are particularly encouraged. Submissions based on other methods are also welcome. Suggested topics include (but are not restricted to) the following research areas:

The temporal connection between different types of technology transfer mechanisms: are different technology transfer channels used consecutively, and if so, how is this sequence actually working? Some studies cluster technology transfer channels according to whether they are used in combination with others. However, we do not know much about whether these channels are used simultaneously or sequentially; or whether the same piece of knowledge is transmitted (and maybe modified) through different channels.

The relation between technology transfer and the business cycle: while there are analyses of technology transfer over time, there is not yet much reflection on whether evolving macroeconomic and institutional conditions affect technology transfer dynamics; does technology transfer grow or decline with the business cycle?; what impacts do crises have?

The changing facets of individual-level characteristics and technology transfer: do individual characteristics change because of engagement in technology transfer? We have learnt much about the influence of personal characteristics, including attitudes and motivations, on technology transfer. However, the impact engagement in technology transfer has on personal characteristics remains relatively unexplored. Do people change after engagement in technology transfer activities?

A wide interpretation of technology transfer will be favoured, including its non-commercial, bilateral, cultural and societal aspects. The preference will be for multilevel analyses, which explore how the impact of the micro-level antecedents of technology transfer is affected by more aggregated antecedents (e.g. organizations, institutions, macroeconomic framework, etc.). For studies at the individual level, incorporating insights from psychology would also be an asset. However, as mentioned above, contributions are not restricted to these topics and approaches.

Topics of interest include:
Gender and technology transfer
Geography of knowledge flows
Spatial dimensions of technology transfer
History of technology transfer
Long-term case studies of technology transfer
Beneficiaries of academic research beyond industry
Involvement of researchers in the cultural and artistic life of cities
New spaces for technology transfer: living and urban labs
Incorporation of technology transfer in PhD programmes
The relation between technology transfer and participatory action research
Technology transfer and intellectual property
Academic entrepreneurship: institutional and organizational perspectives
Individuals wishing to present a panel session that fits the conference theme or the areas noted above should submit a proposal that includes the title of the session, an up to 500-word description, as well as the name, affiliation, and email address of the panel organizer.

Individuals wishing to present a paper that fits the conference theme or the areas noted above should submit an extended abstract that includes the title of their paper, up to 1500-word abstract, as well as the name, affiliation, and email address of the presenter.

Panel session proposals and extended abstracts for presentation should be submitted no later than June 22nd, 2018. Panel organizers and paper presenters will be notified not later than July 24th, 2018 if their session or paper is accepted.

Based on abstract reviews, selected authors will be invited to submit a complete manuscript in consideration a special issue of the Journal of Technology Transfer and/or possibly an edited book through Springer’s International Handbook Series on Entrepreneurship on the conference topic. Invited authors will also be notified by July 31st, 2018; completed manuscripts will be due October 10th, 2018 for review.
