ESCYT Network

The Argentinean Network of Social Studies of Science and Technology (ESCYT), local chapter of the Latin American Society for Social Studies of Science and Technology (ESOCITE), has as main purpose to articulate institutes, centers, groups and researchers dedicated to social studies of science and technology, with the strategic objective of promoting local scientific and technological activities, public policies design and optimization and the revitalization of the Argentinean national system of innovation, in order to contribute to our country’s productive, social and sustainable development.

The ESCYT Network, first in his specialty in Argentina, emerged from the First Argentinean Congress of Social Studies of Science and Technology organized in 2007 at the National University of Quilmes. The researchers that attended the Congress and representatives of the various Argentinean and Latin American institutions agreed to create the network and to link it to other existing networks in the subject (in particular the Latin American ESOCITE Network). From the beginning ESCYT Network recibed support from Bienes Comunes A. C.

The main node of the network is based in the Institute of Science and Technology Studies  (IESCT-UNQ).

Our objectives

ESCYT Network aims to:

  • Facilitate exchange between different disciplines, approaches and objects of analysis linked to the social problems of science and technology,
  • Stimulate cooperation activities in research, teaching and extension between members of different academic institutions,
  • Reflect on the social relevance of the issues prevailing in the field,
  • Facilitate the encounter and exchange between research groups scattered in the wide geographic area of ​​the country.
