Due the economic and financial crisis that began in 2008, the global economy faces demanding challenges in terms of economic growth, combat to unemployment and improvement of sustainable competitiveness. The emergence of new business models based on innovation, cooperation networks, and the enhancement of endogenous resources, are assumed to be a strong contribution to the development of competitive economies and regions. This is a matter of special concern for low density and peripheral territories.
In this context, the Triple Helix mission today plays a crucial role in fostering new advances in terms of RD&I and entrepreneurial activity by opportunity, with particular importance for the dynamic and competitive positioning of regional ecosystems. New contributions are expected as well as cooperative solutions involving local and regional actors from the Academia, Business, Regional and Local Governments, and other representatives of society, opening new cooperation avenues for inter-regional ecosystems in order to achieve new competitive and sustainable levels in the global market.
